The Company was formed in October 2002 by the reversal of Sterling Energy Limited into Lepco plc, following which it was renamed Sterling Energy PLC. The company is listed on AIM, a market operated by the London Stock Exchange (Symbol: SEY).

October 2002 - Listing on AIM

December 2003 - £40 million acquisition of Fusion Oil & Gas plc

February 2004 - $40 million Osprey production acquisition (USA)

November 2004 - £97 million share placing and Chinguetti Funding Agreement

February 2006 - First production from the Chinguetti oil field in Mauritania

March 2007 - $145 million acquisition of the share capital of Whittier Energy Corporation (USA)

November 2007 - Award of PSC with the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq for the Sangaw North exploration block

November 2007 - £11 million share placing

September 2008 - Sangaw North farm-out of PSC with Addax Petroleum Sangaw Limited

September 2008 - £13.5 million share placing

September 2009 - £62.5 million share placing and board changes

December 2009 - Company's US business sold for US$90 million and all bank facilities repaid

December 2009 - Share placing to raise £20.4 million and share consolidation (40:1)
